Hi there. I know it’s been 11 days since my last post. I also know that this is the time in which I’d vowed to do 30 consecutive days of praise. I come humbly before you, o Blogosphere, to offer my sincerest apologies and an explanation. You see, these last couple weeks have been exceedingly hard on me. It’s been a rough time and I’ve struggled. And stumbled. No, these are not excuses. But suffice to say that the last thing on my mind has been praising God.

Now, let me tell you how horribly WRONG that is. That should have been my first response. And while I knew it every single day of these past couple weeks, my stubborn side just wouldn’t let me do what I knew in my heart that I should.

So, today I praise God for a new heavenly perspective. I praise HIM in the midst of my trials. I will praise HIM in all circumstances.

I’ve heard it said many times before that mercy is not receiving the punishment we deserve for our sin and that grace is receiving salvation… which we do not deserve. Those definitions are definitely distinguishable but they still seem pretty similiar. So, I decided to do a little research. Here’s what I found on grace. We’ll cover mercy, tomorrow.

Most Christians (I’m generalizing, here) believe that humankind is born with a sin nature. We are then only saved by grace, when God sent His son, Jesus to die on the cross and make atonement for our sins. God’s grace is given freely to all men on the condition that we put our faith in Jesus, believing that He is our Savior, the Son of God and the Messiah. We must believe that His death on the cross has the power to take away all of our sins.

In this respect, it sounds pretty accurate that grace is getting something positive that we don’t deserve. Grace is God’s initiative and choice to make a path to salvation for all mankind.

I love the way Wikipedia puts it:

Grace is an attitude of God towards mankind by which He provides a benefit, without consideration of merit. Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Rest. I don’t get enough of it. I gather that most people in Southern California don’t. Obviously, God wants us to rest. He talked about it quite a bit in the Bible. Here are just a couple of mentions:

Exodus 31:15 Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord

Exodus 33:14 And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

Rest is important, as evidenced in the first verse. But the second verse talks about something completely different. God is speaking about HIS rest. A place He calls us to. Our promised land. And also our “eternal Sabbath.” The Bible warns against unbelief which will cause us not to enter His rest.

I praise the Lord for His rest.
